Ways to look at pornography

Content Warning: The topics discussed ahead could be triggering, and mention violence, rape, and sexual assault. Please look after yourself as you read.

The use of pornography in today’s society is at epidemic levels and is quietly destroying countless lives and relationships.

One of the largest online porn platforms boasts, “in 2019 there were over 42 billion visits, which means there was an average of 115 million visits per day… that’s the equivalent of the populations of Canada, Australia, Poland and the Netherlands all visiting in one day.” 1  The same platform receives more website traffic than both Amazon and Netflix with an average of 2.85 billion monthly visitors.2

Through our work at Yada, we have heard from women in the sex industry about an increase in appetite for abusive and degrading sex, which has in part been attributed to the consumption of increasingly violent and abusive pornography by men who buy sex.

At Yada, we are passionate about engaging in work to prevent sexual exploitation. This is why we are raising awareness of the harms of pornography: how it promotes sexual violence, how it can fuel sex trafficking, how it affects our teens and the reality of porn addiction.
